In wake of heavy downpour, the Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar Girish Dayalan today advised the people of the district residing near the river Ghaggar and other low lying areas to remain on alert and refrain from moving near the river. He said that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation adding that they were already fully geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality arising out of the prevailing circumstances.
The Deputy Commissioner said that 15236 cusec water has been released in Ghaggar today due to heavy rain. He said that people residing on the banks of the rivers must avoid going near the river and should take full precaution for safeguarding themselves. He said that the enhanced water level in Ghaggar could pose danger to low lying areas along the river in district due to which safe evacuation of people and cattle was necessary.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Sub Divisional Magistrates of Kharar, Dera Bassi and Mohali have been put on high alert. He said that other officers of the district administration have also been issued necessary instructions to tackle the emergency situation efficaciously. He said that officers have also been asked to not to leave their headquarters in any case.
However, the Deputy Commissioner appealed the people that there was no need to create panic as the district administration was fully at their disposal. He said that the district administration was duty-bound to extend a helping hand to these people, in case of any sort of emergency. He along with top brass of the district administration was keeping a regular tab on the events unfolding due to the heavy rainfall in district. Meanwhile Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney apprised that 7 villages of Derabassi included Tiwana, Alamgiri, Khajur Mandi, Sarsini, Deher, Danghera and Sadhanpur might have been faced water logging situation due to possible release of water from Kaushalaya Dam. Relief camps have been set up at Jashan Palace and Government School Lalru for these villages. She said that Relief camp have been set up Model Town Kurali for villages of Kurali.
